This morning I did about a 4K run with Colin and one of the Avila's daughters friends Andrea. We ran to the first roundabout and back. So far it is a beautiful day and hopefully stays like this for the party today and tonight. Great start to the day--sun shining, lots of people in town and in the caravan park on Holiday, walking around, surfing---typical Australian morning! I headed out to the beach to lay in the sand before the party started!
The festivities started at 2 with volleyball games. Dr. Avila, Kate (his daughter), Abby, and I were all on a team---during the first match Dr. Avila tore he Achilles and hobbled out of the game. His other daughter Ann who was visiting stepped in as his sub, unfortunately, we still lost...boo! More games continued and soon it was time to head down to the Education Building and BBQ area for our party.
The party started off with some students awards, had some dinner (kangaroo, steak, chicken, sausage, lots of salads, tim-tams, lamingtons, anzac cookies, watermelon---way too much food), had more awards, gave some professor awards, Dr. Avila/Terry/I presented very humourous awards to each student---had them all laughing and crying because they were laughing so hard!! We closed with an awesome slide-show by Misha which was a great way to remember all the places we have gone, all the things we did, friends we made, and times we had!
Later that evening, just the students and I went back to the Education building and watched the uncorked version which was very entertaining---mostly drunken nights on this slide-show. Then it was off to the pub for some evening drinks and fun. We just hung out for the night!
We all talked about how close we all have become (everyone considers each other family and we can't imagine this trip without any one of us), we all connected so well and have become such great friends!
