I got up at 4AM and decided to watch the sunrise. About 12 students went with me, we walked through our path and out to the beach! It was pitch black so we brought many flashlights and walked down along the coast. I got to see my first shooting star this morning. I was looking up at the beautiful and clear sky and saw a ray of light leap across the sky. Its going to be a spectacular day!
Then we hiked it up the peak----grassy hill that was partly muddy and partly paved. The top was just gorgeous though! We hiked a little further up and found a great platform with rushing waves on rocks and breaking clouds. What a beautiful way to start my day! As the sun rose we just marveled the majestic scene. We walked all the way home--which felt a lot longer than the first walk!
We all had to clean off when we returned and get some breakfast---I had some cereal and a banana. I may need a nap to get ready for canoeing and kayaking today.
I napped for 40 minutes and then went out to the ocean. The waves were huge today and the water was freezing!! I stayed ankle deep and then went back to my cabin.
Time for kayaking----a bunch of us went down to the lake and got into kayaks--these kayaks were relatively small and tipped really easily----I think a quarter of the students fell in. We had a blast circling the lake. Luckily I did not fall in, but quite a few times I thought I was going to. What a great upper body workout! Then it was off to the pool for some laps--ohh how I miss Triathlon Swim Practice!! I swam only 1400 with some drills, but it felt great. And the good thing is that half the pool is covered so its much cooler.
I am starting to get sunburn today and am applying lots and lots of aloe!
I was off to plan the weekend trip to Byron Bay this evening----booking a hostel, getting surf lessons for the students, and also scuba dives. After running around the cabins to get students input, it was time to head to the town for a night out! All the students had already gone and Abby and I were on our way about 9PM. The pub we went to was hopping, they had some great reggae bands and all the students and myself danced the night away. What a great time. We met tons of Australians who gave us tips for our excursions. The people as everyone preaches are just wonderful, nice, warm, welcoming individuals! And look at the place they get to live--how lucky!
All the students enjoyed themselves very much. Abby and I left around midnight and headed back on our bikes, it was nice to feel the breeze after being inside the bar----they don't believe in AC here so its just hot!!
Time to sleep--big day in Byron tomorrow!
Also, they finally found the student and mine's luggage----we should be getting it tomorrow or Sunday they said---keeping my fingers crossed!
